Vinegar is an ancient remedy which is gaining new found popularity for its weight loss properties. There is a mounting body of anecdotal evidence coming on the heels of the Grapefruit and Lemon juice phenomena in dieting and weight loss circles. There is also growing evidence that fruit juices of many kind have a spoiling effect in the absorption of chemicals and fats.

Wine too is hitting health circles as being good in moderation. Acids are the common link between fruits and Vinegar. Vinegar is only after all spoiled wine or fermented fruit. It is however Vinegar which has been given the top spot for its complete domination of the super good for you dietary supplement. It seems that anecdotal evidence puts Vinegar in the forefront for its fat fighting efficiency. But not just any vinegar. It is unpasteurized unfiltered apple cider Vinegar that is at the top of the tree. My own experience with this wonder liquid is one that I would share with you.

Two years ago my weight was 15 and a half stones. I am six foot tall and at the time had a spare tyre around my middle and I could certainly grab a handful of fat. I did not consider myself particularly overweight. My mother happened to see the Doctor for feeling tired all the time and after blood tests was told that she had a Thyroid problem. The Doctor also said that the blood tests revealed that she had extremely high Cholesterol levels and that this was often an hereditary condition which could be passed to other family members. I agreed to have my Cholesterol level taken and I was dangerously high.

Seven point five as opposed to the recommended safe level of 4.5 here in the UK. I was gobsmacked as I was now x percent more likely to die from heart attack so many percent more likely to suffer from strokes coronary etc. I had to seriously look at my diet said the Doctor. Well my diet was not good. I liked fried food on a regular basis and ate all the fatty starchy foods that we all crave. The problem was I did not feel able to compromise. I did not want to take medication either due to associated short term memory loss. I happened to come across an article that stated that cholesterol levels could be affected by Vinegar and started to research the topic. I found that Apple Cider Vinegar was being touted as some sort of a cure all and in a skeptical frame of mind tried it.

I took a table spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar between meals in a glass of water three times a day. I did not change any other aspect of my diet at this time. I hoped rather than expected a difference when I next went for a blood test. Sure enough the fateful day arrived and I was tested and weighed. What the Doctor said nearly blew my mind. I had lost one and a half stones in weight and my fasting blood sugar was down to 4.5 the national safe limit! The Doctor asked how my diet was going and I said "What Diet"!.

Since this time my curiosity about Vinegar has led me to research it further and I would like to list all its associated health benefits. Unfortunately you have not got the time to read it all and I don't have the time to write them all down but to name just a few claims made for this extraordinary liquid a short list of health benefits which is by no means exhaustive. Why do so many people jump from one weight loss program to another, year after year, with minimal results and more money out of our wallets? You can not help seeing the ads. The tabloids, the late night infomercials, the latest diet program sweeping the offices. The list goes on and on. Most of the time, the lack of preparation and planning are the root cause to minimal results and failed dreams.

You may not know what to look for in a weight loss program or what questions to ask. Help is here! This article will guide you in talking to your doctor and the providers of the seemingly endless weight loss programs available today.

As with any weight loss program, fitness exercise or nutritional plan, see your health care provider before you decide on a weight loss program.

When you visit your doctor, tell them about your concerns with weight loss. Share your feelings about medical conditions you have or medicines you are taking. Do not forget the "herbal" remedies and vitamins or other over the counter pills you take.

Write down your questions in advance. Take a notepad and pen to capture key points of information. Bring a friend or family member along for support if this will make you more comfortable.

Make sure you understand what your doctor is saying. No medical speak here. Ask for other sources of information.

So, with your weight loss program in site, here are the top 10 questions you MUST have answered:

1) Does this program address "mindset" and motivation issues? We are what we eat. How many times have you heard this line? Our mind controls our every action. Positive thoughts in and positive actions out. Negative thoughts in and negative actions out. "My whole family has always been fat, it is in our genes." This self talk over time will put extra weight in those jeans! Be aware though that motivation and support are the KEY to a successful program. Do not consider any program and run from any program that does not address motivation and mindset.

2) What is my ideal weight goal and why? Your height and bone structure help determine your optimal weight. Many body fat (mass) tables are available to assist you and your program leader in setting realistic targets starting out. Remember, you did not get overweight overnight so don't try to lose it overnight either.

3) What goals will I set? Do not start a plan without a specific set of measurable goals written down. What will my benefits be exactly by getting to X pounds in 1 year? Also, losing more than 2-3 pounds per week can be very dangerous. Do not believe the claims of massive weight loss in some programs. Always the fine print will read "results are not typical." Need I say more?

4) How does nutrition and physical activity affect my goals? How should I change my eating habits? What kinds of physical activity can I do starting out? How much physical activity do I need now and within the next year? Each of these questions is vital in laying out a weight loss program. Safe and effective weight-loss programs should include:

* Healthy eating plans that reduce calories but do not forbid specific foods or food groups.

* Tips to increase moderate-intensity physical activity.

* Tips on healthy behavior changes that also keep your cultural needs in mind.

* Slow and steady weight loss. Depending on your starting weight, experts recommend losing weight at a rate of 1/2 to 2 lbs per week.

* Medical care if you are planning to lose weight by following a special formula diet, such as a very low- calorie diet.

* A plan to keep the weight off after you have lost it.

5) Should I treat my weight loss medically? With some exceptions for overly obese people and others under the direction of their doctors, a weight loss program should start with proven techniques for losing weight. This is why your doctor is critical in your decision making process.

6) What are the components of the weight loss program?

* Does the program offer one-on-one counseling or group classes?

* Do you have to follow a specific meal plan or keep food records?

* Do you have to purchase special food, drugs, or supplements?

* Does the program help you be more physically active, follow a specific physical activity plan, or provide exercise instruction?

7) What are the staff qualifications?

* Who supervises the program?

* What type of weight management training, experience, education, and certifications are required of the staff?

8) Are risks associated with this program? If so, to what degree and how will it affect me?

* Could the program hurt you?

* Could the recommended drugs or supplements harm your health?

* Do participants talk with a doctor?

* Does a doctor run the program?

* Will the program's doctors work with your personal doctor if you have a medical condition such as high blood pressure or are taking prescribed drugs?

9) How much does the program cost? Ongoing fees? Does it include everything I need?

* What is the total cost of the program?

* Are there other costs, such as weekly attendance fees, food and supplement purchases, etc.?

* Are there fees for a follow-up program after you lose weight?

* Are there other fees for medical tests?

10) What results do participants typically achieve?

Gastric Bypass - Post-Operative Expectations

As the number of obesity victims rise up at an alarming rate, the number of people who are turning to gastric bypass surgery to find a solution for their weight problem is increasing as well. But just how successful is gastric bypass surgery in terms of weight loss and can it really make a dramatic change to your life? Many doctors have been performing this kind of surgery for over fifteen years now and though people are aware that this surgical procedure is very risky, most of the patients who experience gastric bypass surgery are very satisfied with the results of their operation, which lets them improve the quality of their life. However, there is a price to pay.

With gastric bypass, patient have to adopt a very different lifestyle and this is never easy, not unless there's an enough preparation done prior to the actual operation to support the patient throughout their recovery period.

Some changes are of course obvious. The primary objective of this operation is to extremely reduce the size of the patients stomach, which will put limit to their daily food intake and so every patient who wishes to undergo this surgery must understand that they are no longer allowed to eat heavy meals. But other consequences of surgery are less obvious.

A person who had gastric bypass surgery is no longer allowed to eat foods that contain a high level of sugar. With a shortened digestive tract, eating such foods may bring further problems because sugar can now be rapidly absorbed, which may lead to some discomforts and faintness. In addition to weight loss surgery, it may be helpful to use cha de bugre for weight loss.

Patients also find that the dramatic change in their eating pattern also leaves them very short of water and they must adjust to constantly drinking small amounts of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration.

This fairly dramatic change in lifestyle is all well and good but just what can gastric bypass achieve in terms of weight loss?

There is of course no simple answer to this question as results will vary from person to person. As a guide however we need to start by understanding just how post-operative weight loss is measured.

The very first thing that we should put into consideration in evaluating a patient is just how much the weight that this patient is currently carrying. This could be done by figuring out the ideal weight of the patient. Using pounds as our measuring unit, the standard weight of a man should be around 106 only plus the measurement of his height in inches multiplied by six less 60. If this example confuses you, heres another one. If a man stands 5ft and 10ins tall, the conversion of his height in inches will be 70. To calculate for his standard weight, you have to minus 60 from his total height in inches and then multiply the answer of 10 by 6 to arrive to 60. Then, combine 106 and 60 together to arrive at figure of 166 pounds, which is the ideal weight for a man of 5ft 10ins tall.

You can also apply this same principle to compute for the ideal weight of women, but only this time the formula will be 100 plus 5 times her height in inches less 60

Using our above example, if a man weighs 366 pounds, this means he exceeded his expected normal weight by 200 pounds. The loss of his weight will be then computed through the percentage of his excess weight lost over the period. So if he can to lose 100 pounds after six months time, then his weight loss rate will be around fifty percent. Meaning, within that period, the man will lost fifty percent of his excess weight.

Usually, the average patient can reduce up to fifty percent of their excess weight in six months of surgery, which can grow to seventy percent on its first year and up to eighty percent on second year.

For most patients, the development of weight loss will not last after 2 years and there is some long-term weight gain that may appear after your second year of operation, which is normally around 10 to 15 percent of the patients excess weight.

As expected, those patients who are terribly overweight will have the advantage in losing a greater percentage of their excess weight (could be as much as 90 to 95 percent), while for those people who weigh less may only lose as little as 60 percent of their excess weight in 2 years subsequent to surgery.

Another interesting note about gastric bypass surgery is the fact that its very rare for a patient to lose 100 percent of their excess weight, which failed them to reach their ideal weight as what this surgery suppose to do. This is the reason some of gastric bypass operation are cannot be considered as a total success. The overwhelming majority of patients would not however agree with this statement.

While they may not reach their ideal weight and may have to condition themselves to a very different lifestyle following surgery, for most patients the results achieved and the improvement in their quality of life is simply unimaginable.
